You will be aware that screening at some water abstraction (intake) and outfall points must comply with increasingly stringent fish and eel screening regulations. The Council Regulation (EC) No 1100/2007, establishing measures for the recovery of the European eel, led to The Eels (England and Wales) Regulations 2009 Act, which will be implemented through a phased approach through to 2027. Such low bar-spacing can only be effectively kept clean at high-volume water intakes using a rotating-mesh screen with a debris removal spray, such as the GoFlo screening system.
